Biography
He studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (now the Academy of Fine Arts) from 1972 to 1977. He received his diploma in 1977 in the studio of Prof. Kazimierz Ostrowski. Since 1979, he has been professionally affiliated with his alma mater. He was awarded the title of professor in 1994 and became a full professor in 2003. For many years, he has been actively involved in academic and artistic life. He is the author of numerous reviews for doctoral, habilitation, and professorial dissertations, as well as texts for exhibition catalogs promoting the work of Polish artists. His body of work includes original projects in the field of performative painting theater and over 100 solo exhibitions presented at prestigious galleries and museums in Poland and abroad. The artist’s work has received numerous awards and honors. Among others, he has been awarded the “Gloria Artis” Medal for Merit to Culture, the “Meritorious for Polish Culture” Medal, the Kazimierz Ostrowski Award, the Pomeranian Art Award, the First-Class Rector’s Award, and the Mayor of Gdańsk Award.
He has developed his own distinctive artistic language, which stands out for both its personal character and its timeless universality. His works balance between a surrealistic reflection on reality, a dramatic vision of the world, and intelligent grotesque, laced with subversive humor. A characteristic element of his works are handwritten inscriptions, seemingly illegible lettering, collage-like inserts, and visual interplay with the viewer.
His works are held in the collections of national museums, galleries, and private collections in Poland and abroad.
