Biography
Engaged in printmaking, sculpture, photography, poetry and writing. He created in Maćkowa Ruda in the Suwałki region. In 1945-47 he studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Lodz under the direction of, among others, Władysław Strzemiński. When the academy changed its profile to one more focused on applied art, he moved to Cracow. At the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts there, he received his diploma in 1950. He belonged to the Self-education Group led by Andrzej Wróblewski. At the time, he created in the spirit of socialist realism. Between 1949 and 1953, Strumillo assisted Eugeniusz Eibisch at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and Tadeusz Grygiel and Adam Rychtarski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. He later moved to Warsaw where he began working with the Polish Chamber of Commerce. He designed numerous exhibition pavilions during this period. He visited Europe, Asia, North America and countries in the Far East. From 1977 to 1980 he worked as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. In 1982-1984 Strumillo held the position of head of the graphic design studio at the UN Secretariat in New York.Strumillo's later work is extremely rich and was shaped by the artist's countless travels throughout almost the entire world. He was an artist with a broad imagination, and in his work he touched upon poetic and metaphorical themes, as well as abstract and existential meaning.
