Alfons Maria Mucha was born in Iwanczyce on July 24, 1860. He died in Prague on July 14, 1939. He was a Czech printmaker and painter, one of the leading representatives of the fin de siècle and Art Nouveau movements.
Mucha’s work combines Byzantine and modern traditions. Mucha’s hallmark is his Belle Époque-style prints of women—the idealized figure of a beautiful woman surrounded by an armful of flowers and leaves, symbols, and arabesques.
