Renata Macchi, *Sole Rosso*, oil on canvas
An oil painting on canvas by artist Renata Macchi, titled “Sole Rosso.” The work depicts a female figure in traditional Japanese attire, seated on a decorated rug. The subject wears a cream-colored kimono with red and ochre floral motifs, complemented by a wide red-and-gold obi sash and an elaborate floral headpiece (kanzashi). The composition is dominated by a large red and burgundy circle in the background, reminiscent of the rising sun, set against a textured wall in warm, earthy tones, rendered with thick, impasto applications of paint. In the lower right corner is a monogram painted in red, consisting of the overlapping letters M and R. The canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher and is presented unframed.
