Biography
Photographer, painter, and organizer of numerous photography exhibitions. A member of the Poznań Photographic Society since 1953. A member of ZPAF since 1962 and of ZPAP since 1963. In the 1950s, his photographic works adhered to the conventions of socialist realism. He became interested in abstraction in 1956. His photography draws on graphic techniques. In 1958, he was the only Pole to participate in the “Subjective Photography” exhibition in Essen. Also in 1958, together with Zdzisław Beksiński and Jerzy Lewczyński, he formed an informal group that in 1959 presented a highly publicized exhibition described by critic Alfred Ligocki as “Antyfotografia.” From 1962 to 1974, there was a hiatus in his creative work. In the late 1980s, he returned to artistic activity, working on his own technique—a synthesis of photography and painting.
