Distillery description
Glen Grant is a Scottish distillery in the Speyside region, founded in 1839 by brothers John and James Grant. Its significance lies in its size and strategic railway connection, financed by the Grants, facilitating exports. John Grant, known as The Major, introduced innovations like electric lighting and cleaning pipes in stills, contributing to Glen Grant's light and fresh whiskey character. By the late 19th century, Glen Grant was among the first single malts exported to the USA, Africa, and Australia. Acquired by Gruppo Campari in 2006, Dennis Malcolm, a respected master distiller for over 60 years, managed the distillery until July 2024. House-bottled whiskey primarily ages in ex-bourbon casks, while older and limited editions from Gordon & MacPhail age in ex-sherry casks, attracting collectors and connoisseurs alike.
