Barolo, Piedmont

Giuseppe Rinaldi is a legendary figure of the Langhe region. His wines are not only ranked among the highest circles of the region, but are its foundation. They represent the most classic style of Barolo wines: intense, austere, with tremendous potential for maturation and not in any way subject to contemporary trends. They are intellectually demanding, but they repay the effort beautifully.
Like many traditionalists, Giuseppe Rinaldi blended grapes from different vineyards for better balance and complexity in the wines.
Barolo Brunate (labeled as Brunate-Coste up to and including 2009) is the most important wine in the range. It first appeared on the market in 1993. It is made in extremely limited quantities, barely a few hundred cases per year. The 2010 vintage is both subtle and powerful. A classic, nuanced bouquet based on cherries, orange peel, dried flowers, herbs and a distinctive smoky note (violets, leather, tobacco).
100 points from Antonio Galloni.
